Department of Chemistry and Technology of Higher Molecular Compounds

The Department of Chemistry and Technology of Higher Molecular Compounds currently provides training of Bachelors in the programme of "Chemical technology" in the following educational specializations:

- Technology and processing of polymers,

- Technology of polymer fibres and composite materials,

- Chemistry of polymers for biomedical purposes,

- Technology and design of protective and decorative polymer coatings,

The department also trains Masters in the Master's programmes:

- Chemical technology of polymers and plastics,

- Chemical technology of polymer fibers and composite materials,

- Chemistry and technology of polymer coatings.

Due to the widespread use of polymers, chemistry and technology of higher molecular compounds as the most important sector of the world economy is developing dynamically.

Now more than 280 million tons of polymeric materials are produced in the world annually: plastics, rubbers, films, synthetic fibres, composite materials. New processing technologies of polymers allow to receive products with unique properties: polymeric optic fibres, sensitive sensors, ultrastrong  bodies of planes, sea vessels and cars, nonflammable fabrics and a number of others.

Polymers are widely introduced into various branches of medicine. On their basis, long-acting drugs and medicines packaging in pharmacology, medical underwear, dressings and suture materials for surgery, containers for blood and donor organs, dental filling materials, disposable syringes, droppers, antibacterial dressings and gloves, prostheses of human organs: heart valves, artificial vessels, joints, artificial skin, which cannot be distinguished from natural, are produced. All these became possible as a result of the development of scientific research in the field of biomedical polymers.

It is impossible to imagine our daily life without chemical fibres. Polymer thread is a  natural invention with a unique combination of strength and flexibility, which man has adopted and improved. Polyamide, polyester, polypropylene, viscose, carbon and many other types of threads are used for the manufacture of fabrics, knitwear, hosiery, carpets, equipment for astronauts and rescuers, for reinforcing tyres, making hoses, cables, membranes, filters, awning fabrics, parachute slings. Scientists and technologists constantly solve new problems on creating materials with desired properties.

Specialists in the field of paint and protective polymer coatings make our world bright, joyful, diverse. Paint and varnish painter is an artist, but he does not paint only a single picture, but the whole world around him from cars and huge ocean liners and airliners to various household items. Successful colour combinations emphasize the shape and functionality of objects, create the mood and energy of living space.

Graduates of the department can work as researchers in research and design organizations, as engineers, managers, technologists at large industrial enterprises producing and processing polymers, as well as small and medium-sized businesses that produce consumer goods from polymers. They are invited to work in Moscow, Moscow region, St. Petersburg, Kaluga, Kazan, Rostov-on-don, Tver, Nizhny Novgorod, Tomsk, Krasnodar, Samara.
